Dry-farmed, own-rooted, old-vine País, Carignan and Semillón from Secano Maule, Chile.
MAITIA is more than a wine producer. It is closer to a curator of the Secano Maule, in Chile. Secano means dry-farmed. It is also the place where viticulture took root more than 400 years ago in Chile, worked by local farmers the old way: by hand, low yields and solidarity.

Why old wines from the New World?
The Secano Interior is the dry coastal range of the Maule, south of Santiago. Wine has been made here since the sixteenth century, and the oldest vines in the country still grow here: head-trained, ungrafted, never irrigated. When the industry moved to the irrigated central valley, these vines were left behind. They are the reason MAITIA exists. A viticulture older than phylloxera and older than the French Revolution. It belongs to the building of the Americas.
How the wines are made
MAITIA Secano Collection reflects over fifteen years of trust with these growers. Owning the land is not the only way to make real wines. This is MAITIA's mission: bringing old vines from the New World to your table. Salú. — David Marcel, French winemaker. Half a lifetime in Chile, since 1998.

Every harvest in the Secano is different — there is no irrigation to smooth it out. The vintage book records what each year did, wine by wine.
